Just before my second open heart surgery at age 12, my grandmother took my mother and I on a whirlwind European trip. When we arrived back stateside, we continued the trip connecting with relatives across the country from Texas to Oklahoma to Arkansas. One relative had been researching our family tree, her manuscript piled to the top of her typewriter. The first page spoke of a place in England, that had once been in our family, so from age twelve to thirty-seven, I went searching…for a house and a history.
