About Matt Rogers

One day, while playing the Boerne Farmer’s Market in Texas, I  closed my eyes and let the music take me. When I opened them, a woman, just inches from my face said, “You live in the music”. I smiled. Music runs deep in my bloodline. My grandmother, a first chair Violinist, my father, a pianist, my mother a pianist, violinist, and guitarist, and me, guitarist turned Stickist.

The turning point was hearing Simon & Garfunkel’s Sound of  Silence for the first time. That song reached so deeply into my soul, I knew then I wanted to be a musician. I was five.

Though my mother, initially, took me kicking and screaming to my first guitar lesson at age 12, it wasn’t long before she couldn’t get me out of my room to eat. I spent hours studying the greats; Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Michael Hedges, Yngwie,  John Williams, and Rodrigo among others too many to mention.

I played in bands throughout school, studied Classical Guitar, played Lead Guitar in No Regrets and The Killdares, a Celtic Rock  Band…But, when I first saw Stanley Jordan perform, Treasures,  tapping on his guitar, a whole new world opened up and I began tapping.

Soon, I would discover the Chapman Stick®, an instrument created specifically for the tapping style. Two years later, I  would receive my first Chapman Stick, a gift from my Dad.
