If I can’t prove it’s working for me, how will I prove it can work for you? Well, maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t. Is it because we’re not doing enough? Writing enough? Writing the right things? Taking the right classes or courses? And the list goes on as we dive into a downward spiral of Impostor Syndrome.
I don’t know about you, but I have done everything the most backward way imaginable. I’ve broken every don’t and tried every do. How about you?
Is the market for writers saturated? Maybe.
But then I took a look at all the writers who were successful. I don’t just mean authors like J.K Rowling and Diana Gabaldon both of whom wrote their series’ over a 20-year span. Or Deborah Harkness who is an author AND a professor. Or Stephen King and Clive Cussler who’ve been writing for MORE than twenty years. In fact, most famous authors were SOMETHING…and a writer.
Even Charles Dickens, one of my absolute favorites, worked as a Clerk. Now, who do you suppose he modeled Bob Cratchit after? Hmmm…
What about those professional writers who charge for courses to tell you how you too can be a hugely successful writer and make a living? Now, don’t get me wrong, I have learned a lot from these courses myself. But what I’ve learned is that by diving into the deep-end first, I’ve been treading water. For years. I did it all wrong. I followed “everyone else” down the rabbit hole.
So…where is all this leading exactly? You may be wondering if you’re still reading this post? Well, in a nutshell…to an overhaul of Writing in the Fast Lane and the kind of content you’ll see from us.
Those courses I’ve been taking say to be direct, so here goes.
