You know those stores in the airport which offer travel gadgets, snacks, drinks, last-minute souvenirs, postcards, magazines, and that single case of books? That is where I first discovered Clive Cussler and the Dirk Pitt Series.
Though it’s rare to see today, I happened to pick up his first book in the series “The Mediterranean Caper” and was hooked from page 1. Twenty plus books later, I had literally watched, er read, the growth arc of Dirk Pitt.
So enamored was I of the stories. Think history meets mystery and as someone once called him, this hero is the ocean’s answer to Indiana Jones. For a bit of reality, the author is a classic car collector, and therefore, classic cars are featured in each book. Also, the organization for which the character works is a real organization. Read the books, then look it up. The behind-the-scenes is just as enticing as the fictional aspect. So, as you can see, I’m a fan.
New Book Announcement
Enter a random email yesterday from Penguin Random House. What’s this? There’s a new book out by Clive Cussler and his son, Dirk Cussler entitled Celtic Empire! Trigger finger at the ready. Pause. No, I’ll go to the store to buy it this weekend.
Book Review in Reverse
It’s been a while since I’ve caught up with Dirk, Al, and the NUMA gang so I’m quite looking forward to reading the story. The kid who began his career diving shipwrecks for NUMA is now its director. His twins are about the same age he was when he started with the organization and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds and fingers crossed, it’s just as I remember.
If you’re looking to dive (no pun intended) into a strong story arc across twenty books of one series and are a fan of the Indiana Jones-trope, then these books are for you. I’ll have a proper review come late Spring or as early as next month’s Book Review. Guess you’ll have to follow us to find out.
If you’d like to post a review of a book during one of our Book Review Weeks, get in touch for more information.
Have you ever thought about writing a book? At Writing in the Fast Lane we focus on ghostwriting and book reviews – take a look around our website for details.
As much as I’d love you to connect with me via social media – you can find all the ones I’m on in the bar to your right – I’d much prefer a review of my book currently available on Amazon, “Reflections: The Girl in the Mirror & The Letter”. Currently, it’s got one lonely review. And for less than a cup of coffee, it sure could use a friend or two or ten…. Oh, and we’re on Goodreads too!
