The Controller by Linda Coles is a cozy mystery story about man’s (and woman’s) best friend. Our four-legged fur babies with whom we share our time and to whom we give our heart. It is also about the coming together of a community and a bad guy’s desire to turn over a new leaf. Because even bad guys have a limit to how far they’ll go.
There are a number of elements which make up a good book and some we don’t even realize. Sometimes it’s the cover or the description. In the world of audiobooks, a narrator can make or break the reading experience. The narrator for The Controller was an excellent choice.
I listened to the audiobook one evening while baking bread, and when the bread was rising, I would simply sit in my reading chair to listen. The story washed over me and I was captivated.
Technology plays a central role as well. A personal drone stirs up an adventure for its owner, but it is the man’s dog, who I think is the real hero of the story. If not for him, well…you’ll have to read, er listen to find out.
Linda Coles’ The Controller expertly weaves small town life and 21st-century technology together for a fascinating whodunnit and an introduction into the world of Detective Amanda Lacey. If you’re looking for a light read with well-developed characters, and plot twists which make you cringe a little, this is the book for you.
A special thank you to Ms. Coles for sharing her work through Authors Direct and an advanced reader copy (ARC) of The Controller in exchange for a review. I’ve truly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of her works.
